Community Farming in the Mississippi Delta

The Mileston Collective is an incredible project filled with community organisers, and led by Calvin Head. Calvin and his community have been working to feed the nutritionally deprived communities who find themselves in a food desert, in spite of surrounding fertile farmlands. The economic situation and the systemic racism in the US has meant that this community has been perpetually underprivileged for generations. This project is working to build resilience within this black community by helping them to support themselves by growing their own food and fibre, as well as hiring people in the local community to work on the biodynamic farms that they are creating. Mileston has approached DIRT to raise money for their most important need, which is to pay the salaries of their staff. Three new core head positions for the Mileston Collective would be transformational for this community and everybody living in it.
