Sow Seeds

The moon affects the water in the soil, just like it affects the tides. Sowing seeds before and on the full moon helps the seeds to germinate faster, sending out stronger roots and larger growth.

From Seed to Plate, where the countryside meets the city…Farmacy’s flagship restaurant opened in Notting Hill, London, in 2016. Every ingredient it serves has been either grown on their own Demeter-certified Biodynamic Farm in Kent, or sourced from local, sustainable, and environmentally conscious suppliers. Their team of dedicated farmers make the link between the farm and plate as explicit as possible.

Fristly, where do I find Biodynamic food?

Take a screenshot of this Demeter logo, because it is the most important thing you need to look out for when sourcing Biodynamic products. The Demeter Biodynamic Certification is used in over 65 countries to verify that Biodynamic products meet international standards in production and processing. Currently, these products are few and far between, you aren't going to stumble over them in your local supermarket, but it's worth investing some time and energy into finding them.

For those of you who live in the US, you can also use this Biodynamic Product Locator to find farms and retailers near you. Plus, it's the magical age of the internet, so you can go digging online for these wonderfully nourishing products!

For those of you who eat meat, and live near London or South-East England, we recommend Tablehurst Farm’s delivery meat boxes. For those of you who don’t live near Tablehurst, have a quick search - you might be able to buy produce straight from a local farm near you. It really makes a difference to farmers when their clientele puts in the effort to purchase directly from them.

Organic Cotton in Egypt

Egypt has a big cotton farming network of Biodynamic farmers, and is re-creating the desert in Egypt by using Biodynamic farming methods to encourage moisture to stay in the soil all year round. We completed a series of 3 events to educate conventional farmers in Egypt and successfully, more than 60 cotton farmers have signed up to transition into Biodynamics!

Biodynamic Wool Production in the UK

Currently, Biodynamic wool doesn’t make it into the supply chains of the fashion and interiors industries in Britain. This project will support research to establish a network of British Biodynamic wool farmers, so that the fashion industry can get behind Biodynamic Farming by sourcing Biodynamic wool.

DJ Calvin Harris recently bought a Biodynamic farm - Terra Masia - in Ibiza, which originally opened its gates in 2018 after a committed community spent two years recovering the land, nourishing the soil, and planting thousands of seeds.
